Massey Ferguson E102.03 – Engine ECU: Intake Boost Pressure Sensor Signal Too High (ECU)

Issue description

The engine controller detects that the voltage signal coming from the intake boost pressure (MAP) sensor is higher than the expected operating range, usually indicating an open circuit in the wiring harness or an internal failure of the sensor.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the boost pressure sensor on the intake manifold, the 4-pin electrical connector, and the wiring harness for visible damage, chafing, or corrosion.

  2. Use a multimeter to check the continuity of the signal wire and the ground wire between the sensor connector and the Engine ECU to rule out an open circuit.

  3. With the key on (engine off), check the reference voltage at the sensor connector to ensure the ECU is supplying the correct voltage (typically 5V) and that the ground is solid.

  4. If the wiring harness, connectors, reference voltage, and ground are all in good condition, verify if the sensor itself has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts or ECU damage.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the Intake Boost Pressure / Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor on the engine's intake manifold.

  3. Disconnect

    Carefully depress the locking tab on the electrical connector and pull it away from the sensor.

  4. Remove Sensor

    Unbolt or unthread the faulty sensor from the intake manifold.

  5. Clean the Port

    Ensure the mounting surface and the port on the intake manifold are clean and free of debris.

  6. Install New Sensor

    Install the replacement sensor. If it uses an O-ring, ensure it is seated properly. Tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque (do not overtighten, as the manifold or sensor housing can crack).

  7. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical connector back into the new sensor until it clicks securely.

  8. Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery. Use a diagnostic scan tool (or the tractor's onboard diagnostic dashboard interface) to clear the E102.03 fault code.

  9. Test

    Start the engine and verify that the code does not return and that the engine operates without derating.
