Massey Ferguson E102.04 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Intake Boost Pressure Sensor Signal Issue
Issue description
The engine control module is receiving an electrical voltage signal from the boost pressure sensor that is lower than the expected operational range, indicating a short circuit to ground, an open circuit in the sensor wiring, or a completely failed sensor.

Check the cause
Inspect the intake manifold pressure (boost) sensor and its wiring harness for visible damage, melting, or wear
Disconnect the sensor and check the 4-pin connector for moisture, corrosion, or loose pins (a common cause of low voltage signals)
Use a multimeter to test the sensor's 5V supply wire and signal wire for continuity to the ECU, and ensure the signal wire is not shorted to ground
Remove the sensor and check the tip for heavy soot or carbon buildup that could block the sensor port
Use a diagnostic scanner to read the live MAP/Boost pressure data with the engine off; it should read atmospheric pressure (if it reads 0 or negative, the sensor or circuit is dead)
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and allow the engine to cool.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the boost pressure sensor, which is mounted directly on the intake manifold.
Disconnect
Press the release tab and carefully unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.
Remove Sensor
Remove the retaining bolt(s) securing the sensor to the manifold. Gently pull the sensor straight out.
Clean or Replace
If the sensor is heavily caked in soot, you can attempt to clean it with a specialized electronic parts cleaner. However, if the circuit has failed internally (common with FMI 4), replacement is required.
Install New Sensor
Insert the new sensor into the manifold port, ensuring the O-ring seats properly to prevent boost leaks. Tighten the retaining bolt.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back in until it clicks securely.
Clear Codes
Turn the key to the ON position. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the E102.04 / SPN 102 FMI 4 fault code. Start the engine and let it idle for 1 minute to validate the repair and ensure the check engine light remains off.
