Massey Ferguson 102.11 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Intake Boost Pressure Sensor Signal Too High

Issue description

The boost pressure sensor (MAP sensor) measures the absolute pressure of the compressed air in the intake manifold. A 'Signal Too High' condition means the voltage returning to the controller is exceeding the maximum expected threshold (typically above 4.7V on a 5V circuit). This usually indicates an electrical issue such as a short to voltage in the signal wire, an open ground circuit in the sensor wiring harness, or an internal short within the sensor itself.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the boost pressure sensor (located on the intake manifold or intercooler piping) for chafing, melted wires, or corrosion.

  2. Test Supply Voltage: Disconnect the sensor plug. Turn the ignition ON (engine off). Set a multimeter to DC voltage and measure the supply pin to the ground pin. It should read approximately 5V.

  3. Test the Ground: Ensure the ground pin has continuity to the chassis/ECU ground. An open ground will cause the signal voltage to default high.

  4. Test for Shorts: Check the signal wire for continuity to the 5V reference wire or battery power.

  5. Conclusion: If the 5V reference and ground are intact, and there are no shorts in the harness, the sensor has failed internally and must be replaced.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Find the boost pressure sensor mounted directly on the intake manifold or the charge air pipe leading from the intercooler.

  3. Removal

    Depress the locking tab and disconnect the electrical pigtail from the sensor. Remove the retaining bolt(s) holding the sensor in place and carefully pull the sensor straight out of the manifold.

  4. Installation

    Ensure the mounting port is clean. Lightly lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor to prevent tearing. Push the new sensor into place and secure it with the retaining bolt.

  5. Reassembly

    Reconnect the electrical connector until it clicks. Reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear Codes

    Use an OBD/diagnostic scanner to clear the 00102.11 fault code from the ECU. Start the engine and verify that the check engine light remains off and normal power is restored.
