Massey Ferguson 102.18 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Intake Boost Pressure Sensor Signal Too Low
Issue description
The sensor that monitors the intake manifold absolute pressure (boost pressure) is reporting a voltage or pressure reading that is below the expected normal operating range. This usually indicates a physical lack of boost pressure (a leak or turbo issue), a faulty sensor, or a wiring issue (short to ground or open circuit).

Check the cause
Inspect for Boost Leaks: Check the intercooler, intercooler piping, and turbocharger resonator assembly for cracks, loose clamps, or leaks.
Check the Air Filter: Ensure the engine air filter is not heavily restricted or plugged, which can starve the intake of air.
Inspect the Turbocharger: Check for a sticking Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) actuator or restricted exhaust.
Wiring and Connector Check: Inspect the pigtail connector going to the boost pressure sensor. Look for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or chafed wires that could cause an open circuit or a short to a low-voltage source.
Battery Voltage: Verify the tractor's battery voltage is healthy (around 12.6V resting), as low system voltage can cause the ECU to misinterpret sensor signals.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and remove the key. Disconnect the negative battery terminal if you will be repairing wiring.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the Intake Boost Pressure Sensor (MAP sensor), typically mounted directly on the intake manifold or the charge-air pipe leading into the manifold.
Disconnect and Inspect
Unplug the 4-pin electrical connector. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner if dirt or oil is present.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring tests fine and no boost leaks are found, the sensor itself has likely failed. Remove the retaining fastener(s) and pull the old sensor out of the manifold.
Install New Sensor
Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor slightly to prevent tearing. Push it into the port and secure it with the retaining fastener.
Reconnect and Clear Codes
Plug the electrical connector back in, reconnect the battery, and use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 00102.18 fault code from the ECU. Test drive the tractor under load to verify the code does not return.
