Massey Ferguson 102.31 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Intake Boost Pressure Sensor Signal Too Low (ECU)

Issue description

The sensor is reading an abnormally low pressure or an excessive pressure drop in the intake manifold during engine start-up (Intake manifold pressure drop too HIGH at cranking).

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the air filter for severe blockages and check intake piping/hoses for collapses or restrictions that could cause an excessive pressure drop at cranking.

  2. Inspect the intake manifold and charge air cooler piping for air leaks.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the boost pressure sensor for corrosion, loose pins, or damaged wires that could cause a low voltage signal.

  4. Verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage and ground from the ECU.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

    Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

  2. Locate sensor

    Locate the intake boost pressure sensor (MAP sensor) on the engine's intake manifold.

  3. Disconnect connector

    Carefully depress the locking tab and disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.

  4. Remove fasteners

    Remove the retaining fastener(s) holding the sensor to the intake manifold.

  5. Remove sensor

    Pull the old sensor straight out of its mounting port.

  6. Clean mounting surface

    Clean the mounting surface on the intake manifold to ensure a proper seal.

  7. Install new sensor

    Insert the new boost pressure sensor and secure it with the retaining fastener(s).

  8. Reconnect connector

    Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

  9. Reconnect battery

    Reconnect the battery terminal.

  10. Clear fault code

    Use a compatible diagnostic scan tool to clear the 000102.31 fault code from the Engine ECU.

  11. Verify repair

    Start the engine and verify that the code does not return during cranking or operation.
