Massey Ferguson 1043.03 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EEM4: High Voltage Detected In The Engine Module

Issue description

The monitoring system has detected an internal failure regarding its voltage supply. This can be caused by an alternator failure (overcharging the system) or an internal hardware defect within the ECU itself.

Check the cause

  1. Measure the 12V supply voltage to the ECU while the engine is running to ensure the alternator is not overcharging the system (overcharging cause).

  2. Using the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT), save the error log and then erase it.

  3. Cycle the ignition to restart the ECU after erasing the log.

  4. Operate the tractor on a test drive. If the fault occurs again during the next driving cycle, the issue is a hard fault.

  5. If the voltage supply from the alternator is normal, temporarily connect a known-good replacement EEM4 controller to cross-test the system for an internal ECU hardware defect (ECU defect cause).

Repair steps

  1. Replace alternator

    If the alternator is overcharging, replace the alternator.

  2. Connect diagnostic tool

    If the alternator is fine and the ECU is deemed defective, connect the AGCO EDT device to the tractor to begin the EEM4 replacement procedure.

  3. Save engine log

    Open the 'Diagnostic Test' page, select 'Save & Upload Engine Log,' and save the engine log information.

  4. Save IQA codes

    Open the 'Calibration' tab and check the Injector Quantity Adjustment (IQA) codes. Save these codes for later use.

  5. Initiate ECU replacement

    Open 'Configuration,' select 'Engine ECU Replacement,' and initiate the replacement process.

  6. Power down tractor

    Turn the ignition switch to OFF and wait for 2 minutes until the power is completely cut off from the tractor control units.

  7. Replace EEM4 unit

    Physically remove the defective EEM4 unit and install the new spare part EEM4 unit.

  8. Turn ignition ON

    Turn the ignition switch to ON. The EDT will read the serial number of the new EEM4 unit.

  9. Activate new ECU

    Follow the on-screen EDT prompts to transfer the software, activate the new EEM4 unit, and write the saved IQA codes to the new controller.
