Massey Ferguson 1043.04 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EEM4: Low Voltage Detected In The Engine Module (ECU)

Issue description

The engine management monitoring system has detected an internal failure regarding its 12-volt power supply (Internal 12V supply voltage below normal).

Check the cause

  1. Measure the tractor's battery voltage and the alternator's charging output to ensure the 12V supply voltage reaching the ECU is within normal operating limits (diagnosing alternator or battery failure).

  2. Connect the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT), save the current error log, and then erase the fault codes.

  3. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 60 seconds to allow the ECU to power down completely, then restart the tractor.

  4. Operate the tractor to see if the fault returns during the next driving cycle.

  5. If the fault returns and external voltage is confirmed good, check the ECU operation by temporarily swapping it with another known-good EEM4 controller (diagnosing internal ECU hardware defect).

Repair steps

  1. Order a New ECU

    Obtain a new EEM4 spare part unit from AGCO parts. Caution: Using an old/used unit from another tractor can permanently add incorrect engine hours to the current tractor.

  2. Deactivate the Old ECU

    Using the AGCO EDT software, follow the prompts to deactivate the old EEM4 unit and save the machine's configuration data.

  3. Remove the Old ECU

    Disconnect the battery. Unplug the wiring harnesses from the defective EEM4 controller and unbolt it from its mounting bracket.

  4. Install the New ECU

    Bolt the new EEM4 unit into place and reconnect the wiring harnesses. Reconnect the battery.

  5. Activate the New ECU

    Connect the EDT, download the activation file, and follow the on-screen instructions to activate the new EEM4 unit.

  6. Final Verification

    Check the Injector Quantity Adjustment (IQA) codes and ensure no active service codes remain.
