Massey Ferguson 105.16 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Inlet Manifold Temperature Too High
Issue description
The sensor is detecting that the air temperature inside the intake manifold has exceeded normal operating parameters (typically registering above 90°C / 194°F). This can lead to reduced engine performance, decreased efficiency, and potential thermal stress on engine components.

Check the cause
Check the engine coolant level. Low coolant can cause overall engine and intake temperatures to rise.
Inspect the radiator and the charge air cooler (intercooler) for blockages, dirt, chaff, or debris.
Check the cooling fan and verify that the V-belt driving the coolant pump/fan is correctly tensioned.
Inspect the wiring harness connecting the intake manifold temperature sensor to the ECU. Look for short circuits to positive/ground, open circuits, or cable breakage.
Check the sensor's voltage output to see if it is reading out of range (note that on many SisuDiesel engines, the temperature sensor is integrated directly into the boost pressure TMAP sensor).
Repair steps
Clean the Coolers
If the radiator or charge air cooler is fouled, use compressed air to blow out the fins from the inside out. Wash carefully if necessary to restore proper airflow.
Address Cooling System Faults
Top up the coolant if it is low. Adjust or replace the fan belt if it is slipping. Clear the code and run the tractor under load to see if the fault returns.
Inspect the Connector
If the cooling system is functioning perfectly, disconnect the intake manifold temperature sensor. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring is intact and the engine is not actually overheating, the sensor is likely providing a false reading. Remove the faulty intake manifold temperature sensor from the intake manifold.
Install and Clear
Install the replacement sensor. Reconnect the wiring harness. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 000105.16 fault code from the ECU.
Test Drive
Operate the tractor under load to verify that the intake manifold temperature remains within the normal range and the code does not return.
