107.18

Massey Ferguson 107.18 – Engine ECU: Air Filter Blocked (ECU)

Issue description

The engine control system has detected a restriction in the engine's air intake system. The air filter pressure sensor is reading a vacuum/pressure drop that exceeds the allowable threshold, meaning the engine is struggling to pull in enough air, typically due to a clogged air filter.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the primary (outer) and secondary (inner) engine air filters for heavy dust, debris, or blockages

  2. Inspect the air intake pipe leading up to the filter housing for physical obstructions

  3. Check the wiring harness and connector at the air filter pressure sensor (blockage switch) for broken wires, chafing, or oxidation/corrosion on the pins

  4. If filters are completely clean and the code remains active (or if code 107.31 is present), test the sensor by swapping in a known-good air filter pressure sensor

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the machine

Turn off the machine and ensure the engine is cool.

  2. Locate the engine air filter housing

Open the hood and locate the engine air filter housing.

  3. Remove the primary air filter

Remove the filter cover and pull out the primary (outer) air filter.

  4. Remove the secondary air filter

Remove the secondary (inner) air filter. (Note: OEM guidelines generally recommend replacing the inner filter rather than attempting to blow it out, to prevent engine dusting).

  5. Clean the filter housing

Clean the inside of the filter housing with a damp cloth to remove residual dirt before installing new filters.

  6. Install new air filters

Install the new inner and outer air filters, ensuring they seat firmly, and secure the housing cover.

  7. Clear fault codes

Clear the fault codes via the dash or a diagnostic service tool and run the engine.

  8. Replace the air filter pressure sensor

If the code persists, locate the air filter pressure sensor (blockage switch) on the intake housing/piping. Disconnect the wiring harness, unthread the faulty sensor, install the replacement sensor, and reconnect the harness.
