E107.31

Massey Ferguson E107.31 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Air Filter Blocked (ECU) / Air filter pressure sensor active at init state

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit has detected a restriction or pressure drop in the air intake system, indicating that the air filter is plugged. The 'init state' condition can also mean the air filter pressure sensor is indicating a blocked filter even when the engine is not running, which points to a faulty sensor or circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Check the physical condition of the primary (outer) and secondary (inner) air filter elements for severe dirt buildup, debris, or blockages.

  2. Check all air intake hoses for condition, tightness, and collapsed sections that might cause a vacuum restriction.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connector going to the air filter blockage switch / air filter pressure sensor for damaged wires, open circuits, or oxidation on the pins.

  4. Test the operation with a known-good air filter pressure sensor to verify if the original sensor is defective, especially if the code triggers at the 'init state' (engine off).

Repair steps

  1. Access the Air Cleaner Assembly

Open the hood and locate the engine air cleaner housing.

  2. Replace the Filters

If the filters are restricted, remove the outer and inner air filter elements. Do not attempt to wash or clean the inner element; it must only be renewed.

  3. Check the Dust Valve

Ensure the rubber dust unloader valve on the filter housing is clean and intact. Do not run the engine with the dust valve removed.

  4. Address the Sensor

If replacing the filters does not clear the code, or if the code is active when the engine is off, locate the air filter pressure sensor on the intake piping/housing.

  5. Replace the Sensor

Disconnect the wiring harness, unthread/unclip the faulty air filter pressure sensor, and install the replacement switch.

  6. Clear Codes

Cycle the tractor's key or use a diagnostic service tool (like WinEEM or AGCO EDT) to clear the E107.31 / SPN 107 FMI 31 fault code from the Engine ECU.
