Massey Ferguson 1076.04 – Engine ECU: Voltage Issue On Fuel Solenoid On High Pressure Pump (ECU)

Issue description

Low side short circuit to GROUND on the MPROP (Magnetic Proportional Valve) control circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness running from the Engine ECU to the high-pressure fuel pump for chafed wires rubbing against the engine block or brackets

  2. Disconnect the MPROP valve connector on the high-pressure pump and check for water ingress, corrosion, or damaged pins

  3. Test the wiring harness for continuity to ground on the low-side control wire using a multimeter

  4. Measure the internal resistance of the MPROP solenoid coil to determine if it is internally shorted

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Battery

    Always disconnect the battery before servicing engine management wiring or fuel system components.

  2. Repair Wiring

    If a short to ground is found in the harness, repair the damaged wire, insulate it properly, and secure the harness away from vibration points.

  3. Replace the MPROP Valve

    If the wiring tests good but the solenoid is internally shorted: Clean the area around the high-pressure fuel pump, unplug the electrical connector, remove the mounting screws securing the MPROP valve, carefully extract the valve, lubricate the O-rings on the new MPROP valve with clean diesel fuel, install the new valve and torque the mounting screws to OEM specifications, and reconnect the electrical connector.

  4. Clear Codes

    Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 001076.04 / SPN 1076 FMI 4 fault code.

  5. Test Run

    Start the engine and verify that fuel pressure is regulating normally (typically around 100 Bar at idle when the valve is not fully activated) and that the code does not return.
