E1077.04

Massey Ferguson E1077.04 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Fuel Solenoid On High Pressure Pump Issue (ECU)

Issue description

Electrical or mechanical malfunction with the fuel pressure control valve (solenoid) located on the high-pressure fuel injection pump. The engine may experience a sudden shutdown, failure to start, stalling, or the tractor may enter a derated "limp" mode with warning lights flashing on the dash.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the fuel solenoid on the high-pressure pump for chafed wires shorting to the chassis/ground, or loose/corroded connectors.

  2. Perform a solenoid resistance test by disconnecting the solenoid and measuring resistance across its terminals with a multimeter (zero or infinite resistance confirms internal failure).

  3. Check the dedicated engine management or fuel pump fuse. If blown, replace it; if it blows immediately upon turning the key, it confirms a short circuit.

  4. Inspect fuel filters to ensure they are not severely clogged, which can cause fuel starvation and erratic pump behavior.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Turn off the ignition, allow the engine to cool, and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Identify the fuel pressure control solenoid on the high-pressure fuel injection pump (often a Bosch VP30 or common rail pump depending on the exact model year).

  3. Remove the Faulty Solenoid

Disconnect the electrical connector. Clean the area around the solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system. Unbolt or unscrew the solenoid from the pump body. Note: Have a rag ready, as residual fuel will leak out.

  4. Install the New Solenoid

Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean diesel fuel. Insert it into the pump and tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque.

  5. Reassembly

Reconnect the electrical harness and the negative battery terminal.

  6. Prime the Fuel System

Bleed the fuel lines to remove any air introduced during the repair.

  7. Clear Codes

Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the E1077.04 fault code from the ECU, then start the engine and check for leaks and proper operation. (Note: On some Bosch VP30 pumps, the solenoid is integrated into the pump's control unit (PSG). If the internal solenoid has failed and cannot be serviced separately, the entire injection pump may require removal and remanufacturing at a specialized diesel shop.)
