108.03

Massey Ferguson 108.03 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Ambient Pressure Sensor Issue (ECU) / Ambient pressure sensor voltage above normal or open circuit.

Issue description

The engine management system has detected that the voltage signal from the ambient (barometric) pressure sensor is higher than the expected normal range, or there is an open circuit. This sensor monitors atmospheric pressure to adjust the air/fuel mixture and boost pressure based on altitude.

Check the cause

  1. Check for Multiple Codes: Connect the EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) or WinEEM service tool. Check if other 5V sensor codes are active. If multiple sensor codes are present, diagnose the shared 5V reference circuit first, as a short elsewhere can cause internal ECU voltage anomalies.

  2. Clear and Retest: Save the error log, then erase the inactive faults.

  3. Key Cycle: Turn the ignition off, wait for the ECU to power down completely, and restart the tractor. Let the engine idle for at least 1 minute to see if the fault occurs again during the next driving cycle.

Repair steps

  1. Verify the Fault

If the code returns immediately after clearing and a key cycle, the internal sensor has failed.

  2. Remove the ECU

Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Locate the Engine ECU (typically mounted on the side of the engine block, utilizing isolation mounts). Carefully unplug the main wiring harness connectors.

  3. Replace or Repair the ECU

Since the sensor cannot be serviced individually, the entire Engine Control Unit must be replaced or sent to a specialized agricultural electronics repair facility for internal board repair.

  4. Install the New ECU

Mount the replacement ECU and reconnect the wiring harnesses. Reconnect the battery.

  5. Program the ECU

A new or remanufactured ECU will be blank or in a base state. You must use the Massey Ferguson EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) to flash the correct software payload matching the tractor's specific engine serial number and model configuration.

  6. Final Validation

Start the engine, let it idle, and verify that the 00108.03 code status changes to "Inactive" and the warning lamp turns off.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Engine Control Unit (ECU)

The ambient pressure sensor is integrated into the ECU motherboard. Replacing the ECU requires dealer-level software programming (WinEEM/EDT) to sync the module with the tractor's immobilizer and fuel mapping.
