Massey Ferguson 1132.04 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Air Inlet Temperature Sensor Signal Voltage Low (ECU)

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) is detecting that the voltage signal from the Air Inlet Temperature Sensor has dropped below the acceptable minimum threshold. In a typical thermistor circuit, a "voltage low" condition usually indicates a short circuit to ground in the sensor wiring, a shorted sensor internally, or a failed 5V reference circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Locate the Air Inlet Temperature Sensor and inspect the connector and wiring harness for physical damage, chafing, or melting.

  2. Disconnect the sensor and check for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins.

  3. With the sensor disconnected and the ignition ON, use a multimeter to check the signal wire for a short to ground.

  4. Verify that the ECU is supplying the correct reference voltage (usually 5V) to the sensor connector.

  5. Measure the resistance across the sensor pins. If the resistance is near zero ohms, the sensor is internally shorted and must be replaced.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate and Clean

    Locate the Air Inlet Temperature Sensor on the intake tract. Clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt or contaminants from falling into the engine intake.

  3. Disconnect

    Depress the locking tab on the electrical connector and pull it away from the sensor.

  4. Remove Sensor

    Depending on the specific engine (e.g., AGCO Power / Sisu), the sensor will either be threaded (requiring a deep socket/wrench) or held in place by a retaining bolt. Carefully unthread or unbolt the sensor and pull it out.

  5. Install New Sensor

    Insert the new sensor. If it is a threaded NPT style, ensure the threads are clean (use a sensor-safe thread sealant if not pre-applied). Torque to the manufacturer's specification.

  6. Reassemble

    Reconnect the electrical harness until it clicks securely. Reconnect the battery.

  7. Clear Codes

    Turn the ignition on and use a compatible diagnostic scan tool to clear the 001132.04 fault code from the ECU. Start the engine and verify the code does not return.
