Check the cause

  1. Verify the code is active in the TRANS1 module via the tractor's dashboard or diagnostic tool.

  2. Locate the Air Brake Solenoid (component Y40 on connector C406) and inspect the wiring harness for chafing, breaks, or corrosion.

  3. Use a multimeter to check the resistance of the solenoid coil. An open circuit or a dead short indicates a failed coil.

  4. Check for proper supply voltage coming from the TRANS1 module to the solenoid connector when the brake circuit is activated.

  5. Ensure there are no severe air leaks in the pneumatic brake lines that might be causing erratic system behavior.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and safely chock the wheels since you will be working on the braking system. Deplete residual air pressure from the air brake tanks if you are replacing the entire valve block.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Find the air brake solenoid valve assembly (Y40) on the transmission housing or chassis valve block.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Carefully unplug the C406 electrical connector from the solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

Depending on the exact valve block design, either remove the retaining nut at the top of the stem to slide the electromagnetic coil off, or unbolt the entire solenoid valve assembly from the air lines and manifold.

  5. Install the New Part

Slide the new coil onto the valve stem or bolt the new valve assembly into place. Reconnect the air lines (if removed) and plug in the C406 electrical connector.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

Turn the ignition on and use the onboard diagnostic sequence or a diagnostic tool to clear the 13.00.09 fault code from the TRANS1 module. Start the tractor, build up air pressure, and test the trailer/air brakes to ensure proper operation and that the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Air Brake Solenoid Valve / Solenoid Coil

    MDEBE70055

Often sold as a 12V normally closed solenoid valve assembly. Ensure you verify whether just the electrical coil has failed or if the mechanical pneumatic valve is stuck before ordering, as coils can sometimes be purchased separately from the valve body.
