Massey Ferguson 13.00.16 – TRANS1: Park Brake Release Solenoid High Amp Draw Dyna VT (TRANS1)
Issue description
The transmission controller has detected that the electrical current (amperage) being drawn by the park brake release solenoid exceeds the maximum allowable limit. This typically indicates an internal short circuit within the solenoid coil itself, or a short-to-ground in the wiring harness supplying power to the solenoid.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness running from the TRANS1 controller to the park brake release solenoid on the transmission valve block. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched lines that could cause a short to ground.
Disconnect the plug at the solenoid. Check for water ingress, corrosion, or damaged pins that could bridge the circuit.
Using a multimeter, measure the resistance (Ohms) across the pins of the park brake release solenoid. A reading of zero or near-zero indicates the coil is internally shorted and requires replacement.
With the solenoid disconnected, turn the key on and check if the high amp draw code changes to an "Open Circuit" code (such as 13.00.15). If it does, the wiring is likely fine, and the solenoid is the definitive cause.
Repair steps
Secure the Machine
Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Since you are working on the park brake system, securely chock the wheels to prevent the tractor from rolling. Turn off the engine and remove the key.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the transmission hydraulic valve block. Identify the Park Brake Release Solenoid (often designated on schematics as Y7 or part of the park brake valve assembly).
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid valve to prevent dirt or debris from entering the transmission hydraulic system.
Remove the Solenoid
Disconnect the electrical harness connector. Remove the retaining nut or bolts securing the solenoid coil to the valve stem.
Install the New Part
Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem (or replace the entire cartridge valve if using a complete kit). Secure it with the retaining hardware.
Reconnect and Test
Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn the tractor on, clear the stored 13.00.16 fault code from the TRANS1 module, and cycle the park brake to ensure it engages and releases properly without triggering the code.
