Massey Ferguson 13.00.17 – TRANS1: Park Brake Release Solenoid Low Amp Draw
Issue description
The transmission controller has detected that the electrical current (amperage) flowing through the park brake release solenoid circuit is below the minimum expected threshold. This condition typically points to an open circuit, a disconnected plug, damaged wiring (broken wire), or a burnt-out/failed solenoid coil that has developed excessively high internal resistance.

Check the cause
Inspect the electrical connector at the park brake release solenoid on the transmission valve block for disconnected plugs, pushed-out pins, moisture ingress, or corrosion
Trace the wiring harness from the solenoid back toward the TRANS1 controller, looking for chafing, breaks, or rodent damage that could cause an open circuit
Disconnect the solenoid and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the solenoid coil pins to check for an open circuit (infinite ohms/OL) or unusually high resistance
With the connector unplugged, probe the harness side with a multimeter while an operator commands the park brake to release to verify the TRANS1 module is sending the correct voltage
Repair steps
Secure the Tractor
Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Turn off the engine and securely chock the wheels to prevent the tractor from rolling when the park brake system is manipulated.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the park brake release solenoid on the Dyna VT transmission hydraulic control valve block.
Disconnect Electronics
Unplug the electrical wiring harness from the faulty solenoid.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid and valve block with brake cleaner to prevent any dirt or debris from entering the transmission's hydraulic system.
Remove the Solenoid
Unscrew the retaining nut or bolts holding the solenoid coil in place. Slide the coil off the valve cartridge. (If the valve cartridge itself is leaking or sticking, remove it using the appropriate wrench, being prepared to catch a small amount of hydraulic fluid).
Install the New Part
Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem. If replacing the entire cartridge, ensure the new O-rings are lubricated with clean transmission fluid before threading it into the block.
Torque to Spec
Tighten the retaining nut to the OEM torque specification.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back into the new solenoid, ensuring it clicks and locks securely.
Test and Clear Codes
Start the tractor, test the engagement and release of the park brake, and check the valve block for any hydraulic leaks. Use the tractor's onboard diagnostic screen or a dealer service tool to clear the 13.00.17 fault code.
