Massey Ferguson 13.00.42 – HITCH: Park Brake Released Solenoid Low Amp Draw
Issue description
The controller is detecting a lower-than-expected electrical current (amperage) when it attempts to energize the solenoid responsible for releasing the park brake, indicating an open circuit typically caused by a broken wire, disconnected/corroded connector, or failed solenoid coil.

Check the cause
Verify that the fuse supplying power to the park brake circuit is intact.
Locate the Park Brake Released Solenoid on the transmission valve block and inspect the wiring harness and connector for frayed wires, corrosion, or loose pins.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid and use a multimeter to measure the resistance (Ohms) across the pins of the solenoid coil. An 'OL' (open line) reading or extremely high resistance confirms the coil has failed internally.
If the coil tests good, check the wiring harness for continuity between the solenoid connector and the HITCH controller pins to look for a broken wire or a short to ground.
With the tractor running and the park brake commanded to release, check for voltage at the harness connector to ensure the HITCH controller is sending the signal.
Repair steps
Secure the Machine
Park the tractor on level ground, turn off the engine, and securely chock the wheels.
Locate the Solenoid
Identify the Park Brake Released Solenoid on the transmission's electro-hydraulic valve block.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the solenoid.
Remove the Coil
Remove the retaining nut or clip at the end of the solenoid valve stem. Slide the faulty electromagnetic coil off the valve cartridge.
Install the New Coil
Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut/clip.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the new solenoid.
Clear Codes & Calibrate
Turn the key on and use the tractor's diagnostic terminal to clear the 13.00.42 fault code. Depending on the model, a transmission/PowerShuttle calibration may be required after replacing transmission solenoids.
Test
Start the tractor and cycle the park brake switch to ensure the brake engages and releases properly without throwing the code.
