Massey Ferguson 13.00.49 – HITCH: Park Brake Wear Switch Not Opening Dyna 6 (HITCH)
Issue description
The electronic control system is detecting that the park brake wear switch (or indirect switch) is remaining in a closed state (continuity present) when the system logic expects it to be open. This is typically caused by a stuck/shorted switch, a short-to-ground in the wiring harness, or excessive mechanical wear/misadjusted linkage.

Check the cause
Inspect the park brake switch electrical connector for water ingress, corrosion, or damaged pins.
Disconnect the switch and check the wiring harness leading back to the HITCH module for a short to ground. If the code changes to an 'Open Circuit' code when unplugged, the wiring is likely intact, pointing to the switch itself.
Use a multimeter to test the switch for continuity. Manually actuate the switch plunger/lever. If the switch fails to break continuity (remains closed) when actuated, it has failed internally.
Inspect the physical park brake linkage and the brake discs/pads. If components are severely worn, the linkage may over-travel, failing to release the switch. Ensure the switch bracket is not bent.
Repair steps
Secure the Machine
Park the tractor on a flat, level surface, turn off the engine, and securely chock the wheels since you will be working on the parking brake system.
Locate the Switch
Depending on the specific cab and transmission layout, locate the park brake switch (often mounted near the base of the handbrake lever assembly or along the ParkLock linkage on the transmission housing).
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the switch.
Remove
Loosen the retaining nuts or mounting bracket holding the switch in place and unthread/remove the faulty switch.
Install
Thread the new switch into the bracket.
Adjust
Carefully adjust the depth of the switch using the locking nuts so that the brake linkage properly depresses and releases the switch plunger without crushing it.
Reconnect & Clear
Plug the electrical connector back in. Turn on the ignition, clear the stored 13.00.49 fault code via the dash or diagnostic tool, and cycle the park brake several times to verify the code does not return.
