Massey Ferguson 13.01.08 – TRANS1: Air Brake Solenoid Issue Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

Electrical or operational malfunction with the Air Brake Solenoid. The system has detected that the solenoid is either drawing incorrect amperage, has an open/short circuit, or is failing to actuate properly when commanded by the transmission controller.

Check the cause

  1. Verify pneumatic system pressure is building and holding adequate pressure (must be above 4 bar / 58 psi).

  2. Check the condition of the air connection couplers at the rear of the tractor and inspect the implement's braking system for massive air leaks.

  3. Inspect the electrical harness running from the TRANS1 module to the air brake solenoid for rubbed wires, open circuits, or corrosion at the Bayonet DIN 72 585 connector.

  4. Test the solenoid coil resistance with a multimeter to ensure it is not shorted to ground or showing an open circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park lock, turn off the engine, and pump the brakes/drain the air tanks to completely depressurize the pneumatic system.

  2. Locate the Valve

Locate the air brake solenoid valve assembly, typically mounted near the rear axle/trailer brake control block.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Unplug the electrical connector from the solenoid coil.

  4. Disconnect Pneumatics

Carefully unscrew the air lines from the valve body. Note that the port threads are typically M16 x 1.5. Cap the lines to prevent dirt ingress.

  5. Remove and Replace

Unbolt the faulty solenoid valve from its mounting bracket and install the new unit.

  6. Reassemble

Reconnect the pneumatic lines securely (do not overtighten) and plug in the electrical connector.

  7. Test

Start the tractor, allow the air compressor to build system pressure, and check for air leaks with soapy water. Test the trailer brake actuation and clear the fault code via the dash interface or diagnostic tool.
