Massey Ferguson 13.01.19 – TRANS1: Brake System Pressure Too High Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The transmission control system has detected that the hydraulic pressure within the tractor's braking circuit (which can include the main brakes, handbrake, or trailer brake system) is exceeding the maximum safe or expected threshold. This is typically caused by a failing brake pressure sensor sending an out-of-range high voltage signal, a wiring short, or an actual hydraulic overpressure condition.

Check the cause

  1. Verify Actual Pressure: Connect a mechanical hydraulic pressure gauge to the brake system test port to determine if the system is actually over-pressurizing or if the sensor is simply reporting a false high reading.

  2. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Check the wiring harness leading to the brake pressure sensor. Look for chafed wires, corrosion in the connector, or a short-to-power that would cause the sensor signal voltage to peg high.

  3. Test the Sensor: Check the voltage output of the brake pressure sensor with a multimeter. If the sensor reads a high voltage even when the system is depressurized, the sensor has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

    Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and actuate the brake pedals repeatedly to relieve residual hydraulic pressure in the braking circuit.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the brake pressure sensor (often designated as the handbrake or trailer brake pressure sensor) on the transmission brake valve block.

  3. Remove the Faulty Sensor

    Disconnect the electrical harness connector. Carefully unscrew the sensor from the valve block. Have a rag ready to catch minor hydraulic fluid drips.

  4. Install the New Sensor

    Thread the new OEM pressure sensor into the port and tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque.

  5. Reconnect and Clear Codes

    Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn the tractor's ignition on and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 13.01.19 fault code from the TRANS1 module.

  6. Test Operation

    Start the tractor, apply the brakes, and verify that the fault code does not return and that the brakes operate smoothly.
