Issue description

The controller has detected an abnormal hydraulic pressure reading (either too low, too high, or an implausible electrical signal) in the emergency steering circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connector leading to the emergency steering pressure sensor/switch for chafed wires, short circuits to ground, or corrosion.

  2. Verify the transmission/hydraulic fluid level and check the hydraulic filters, as low fluid or a restricted filter can cause genuine pressure drops.

  3. Plumb a mechanical hydraulic pressure gauge into the emergency steering test port and compare the physical pressure against the sensor's live data reading to determine if the sensor is faulty or if there is a genuine hydraulic issue.

  4. Use a multimeter to check the voltage supply and signal output of the pressure sensor to ensure it is operating within the OEM voltage range.

Repair steps

  1. Park and prepare tractor

    Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, lower all implements to the ground, and turn off the engine.

  2. Relieve hydraulic pressure

    Turn the steering wheel back and forth several times to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the steering circuit.

  3. Locate sensor

    Locate the emergency steering pressure sensor. On Dyna VT models, this is typically threaded into the steering valve block or the transmission/rear axle housing.

  4. Clean area

    Thoroughly clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  5. Disconnect harness

    Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor.

  6. Remove faulty sensor

    Using a wrench, carefully unscrew the faulty sensor. Have a shop rag ready to catch the small amount of hydraulic fluid that will weep out.

  7. Install new sensor

    Install the new pressure sensor (ensure the new O-ring or sealing washer is in place) and tighten it to the specified OEM torque.

  8. Reconnect harness

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

  9. Check for leaks

    Start the tractor and check the sensor area for hydraulic leaks.

  10. Clear fault code and test

    Use the tractor's dashboard menu or a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 13.01.38 fault code. Test drive the tractor to ensure the code does not return.
