Massey Ferguson 13.01.49 – HITCH: Park Brake Wear Switch Not Opening Dyna 6

The electronic control system has detected that the park brake wear switch is failing to open its electrical circuit. This indicates that either the switch has failed internally (stuck closed), there is a short in the wiring harness, or the park brake pads have worn down to their mechanical limit.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the park brake wear switch on the side of the transmission. Look for rubbed wires that might be shorting to the chassis ground, mimicking a stuck closed switch.

   Disconnect the switch and test it with a multimeter for continuity. If the switch has continuity (is closed) when it should be open, the switch itself has failed.

   If the switch and wiring are healthy, inspect for mechanical brake wear. Check for secondary signs of worn brakes shedding material, such as a blocked high-pressure transmission oil filter warning.

   Secure the tractor

   Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Chock the wheels securely, as you will be working on the parking brake system. Turn off the engine and remove the key.

   Locate the switch

   Locate the park brake wear switch. On Dyna-6 transmissions, it is threaded into the side of the transmission housing near the park brake actuator solenoids.

   Clean the area

   Clean the area around the switch thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the transmission housing.

   Disconnect the harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the switch.

   Remove the faulty switch

   Unthread the faulty wear switch from the housing. Have a catch pan ready, as a small amount of transmission/hydraulic oil may weep from the port.

   Install the new switch

   Thread the new OEM wear switch into the port and tighten to the manufacturer's torque specification.

   Reconnect the harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Clear the fault code and test

   Turn on the tractor and use the SIS (System Information Screen) or a diagnostic tool to clear the 13.01.49 fault code. Test the park brake engagement to ensure the code does not return.
