Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and the connector leading to the Air Brake Park Brake Solenoid for chafing, breaks, or corrosion.

  2. Disconnect the solenoid and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the coil pins. Compare the reading to the OEM specification (an open reading or a dead short indicates a failed internal coil).

  3. With the key ON, check the supply voltage from the TRANS1 controller to the solenoid connector to ensure the module is sending the correct signal and that the ground circuit is intact.

  4. Ensure the tractor's air brake system is building and maintaining proper pneumatic pressure, as low pressure can sometimes cause secondary engagement issues, though this specific code is primarily electrical.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

    Park the tractor on level ground. Because you are working on the parking brake system, you must securely chock the wheels to prevent the tractor from rolling.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

    Locate the air brake control valve block (typically mounted near the transmission housing or rear axle air tanks, depending on the specific chassis).

  3. Disconnect Electricals

    Disconnect the wiring harness from the Air Brake Park Brake Solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

    Depending on the valve design, either remove the retaining nut at the top of the stem to slide the electromagnetic coil off, or unbolt the entire solenoid valve assembly from the manifold.

  5. Install the New Part

    Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem (or install the new valve assembly). Ensure any O-rings are lightly lubricated and seated properly to prevent air leaks. Torque the retaining nut/bolts to OEM specifications.

  6. Reconnect and Clear Codes

    Reconnect the electrical harness. Use a compatible diagnostic tool (such as Jaltest AGV or Massey Ferguson EDT) to clear the 13.02.04 fault code from the TRANS1 module.

  7. Operational Test

    Start the tractor, allow the air pressure to build, and cycle the park brake switch multiple times to ensure the brake engages/disengages correctly and the code does not return.
