13.02.08

Massey Ferguson 13.02.08 – TRANS1: Air Brake Solenoid Issue Dyna VT / Dyna 6 (TRANS1)

Issue description

The transmission control system has detected an electrical fault in the circuit for the Air Brake Solenoid. This typically indicates an open circuit, a short circuit to ground/power, or an abnormal amperage draw at the solenoid coil. This solenoid is responsible for actuating the pneumatic trailer brakes or the tractor's air brake system when the brakes are applied.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the TRANS1 module and the Air Brake Solenoid for physical damage, chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Disconnect the Air Brake Solenoid and measure the resistance across the solenoid coil pins using a multimeter. An infinite reading indicates an open circuit (blown coil), while a reading of 0 ohms indicates a dead short.

  3. With the solenoid disconnected, probe the harness connector. Turn the key ON and apply the brakes to verify that the TRANS1 module is sending the correct voltage signal to the solenoid.

  4. Verify that the ground circuit for the solenoid is clean and has high continuity to the chassis ground.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park brake, turn off the engine, and chock the wheels. Deplete any residual air pressure from the pneumatic brake system if you are removing the entire valve body.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the Air Brake Solenoid valve assembly (often located near the transmission valve block, air brake control manifold, or rear axle housing depending on the specific model).

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty Air Brake Solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

If replacing just the coil: Remove the retaining nut or C-clip at the top of the solenoid stem and slide the old coil off. If replacing the whole valve: Disconnect the pneumatic air lines attached to the valve (mark them for reassembly) and unbolt the valve body from its mounting bracket.

  5. Install the New Part

Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it, or bolt the new valve assembly into place and reconnect the air lines.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector back into the solenoid.

  7. Clear Codes

Turn the ignition ON and use a diagnostic tool (or the tractor's dashboard interface) to clear the 13.02.08 fault code from the TRANS1 module.

  8. Test

Start the tractor, allow the air compressor to build pressure, and test the brake pedal to ensure the air brake solenoid actuates properly without throwing a new code.
