Massey Ferguson 13.02.09 – TRANS1: Air Brake Solenoid Issue

The transmission control system has detected an electrical fault within the air brake solenoid circuit. This is typically triggered by an open circuit, a short to ground, or an abnormal amperage draw (high or low) at the solenoid coil.

   Trace the wiring harness from the TRANS1 module to the air brake solenoid (Y40). Look for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or melted insulation.

   Disconnect the solenoid and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-back terminals.

   Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the air brake solenoid pins. An out-of-specification reading indicates an internal coil failure (open circuit or dead short).

   Verify that the TRANS1 module is sending the correct reference voltage to the solenoid and monitor the circuit for high amp draw.

   Ensure the pneumatic brake system is maintaining adequate pressure (above 4 bar), as low pressure can trigger related brake system warnings.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park brake (if functional) or chock the wheels, and turn off the engine. Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the transmission valve block on the side of the Dyna 6 / Dyna VT transmission housing. Identify the Air Brake Solenoid (Y40).

   Remove the Faulty Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the solenoid. Unbolt the solenoid retaining screws/nut and carefully slide the solenoid coil off the valve stem.

   Install the New Solenoid

   Slide the replacement solenoid onto the valve block. Secure it with the retaining hardware (do not overtighten, as this can distort the valve spool).

   Reconnect and Test

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes

   Start the tractor and use the onboard diagnostic screen or a dealer diagnostic tool to clear the 13.02.09 fault code. Test the air brakes and transmission engagement to ensure the code does not return.
