Massey Ferguson 13.02.0C – TRANS1: Hydraulic Trailer Brake Solenoid Issue Dyna VT

The transmission controller has detected an electrical anomaly—such as an open circuit, a short circuit to +12V, or a short circuit to ground (earth)—in the circuit for the hydraulic trailer brake safety solenoid valve.

   Visually inspect the hydraulic trailer brake solenoid valve and wiring harness for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation

   Disconnect the solenoid and check the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or poor terminal tension

   Test the wiring harness between the TRANS1 controller and the solenoid using a multimeter to rule out a short circuit to +12 V, short circuit to earth, or an open circuit

   Measure the resistance across the solenoid coil to verify it is within specification and not completely open or shorted

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Access the transmission hydraulic valve block where the trailer brake safety solenoid is located.

   Disconnect Electronics

   Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty hydraulic trailer brake solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid

   If only the coil is faulty, remove the retaining nut or clip at the end of the valve stem and slide the electromagnetic coil off. If the entire valve cartridge needs replacement, clean the surrounding area to prevent dirt ingress, then use a wrench to unthread the valve from the hydraulic block. (Note: Have a catch pan ready, as a small amount of hydraulic oil will escape. If removing larger valve blocks, the service manual recommends draining the transmission oil first).

   Install the New Part

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean transmission oil. Thread it into the block and tighten to the manufacturer's torque specification. If replacing just the coil, slide it over the stem and secure the retaining nut.

   Reconnect and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the wiring harness. Turn the ignition on and use the tractor's diagnostic interface (or Datatronic terminal) to clear the 13.02.0C fault code.

   Test Operation

   Start the tractor, check the valve block for any hydraulic leaks, and test the trailer brake system to ensure proper pressure and operation.
