13.02.16

Massey Ferguson 13.02.16 – TRANS1: Park Brake Release Solenoid High Amp Draw Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The fault code indicates a High Amp Draw on the electrical circuit controlling the Park Brake Release Solenoid. The transmission controller is detecting that the solenoid is pulling more electrical current than specified. This is typically caused by an internal short circuit within the solenoid coil, a short to ground in the wiring harness, or a jammed solenoid valve spool.

Check the cause

  1. Wiring and Harness Inspection: Trace the wiring harness from the TRANS1 controller to the park brake release solenoid on the transmission hydraulic valve block. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched lines that could be shorting to the tractor chassis (ground).

  2. Solenoid Resistance Test: Disconnect the electrical connector at the solenoid. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance (Ohms) across the solenoid coil pins. A reading of zero or significantly below OEM spec indicates an internal short, confirming the solenoid needs replacement.

  3. Connector Check: Inspect the solenoid connector (e.g., ACW0703140) for water ingress, corrosion, or melted pins which can cause resistance anomalies.

  4. Hydraulic Pressure Verification: Ensure the Dyna-VT low-pressure system (which supplies the control spool valves and accessory solenoids) is operating at the correct specification (approximately 18 bar).

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and chock the wheels. Warning: Because you are working on the park brake system, ensure the tractor cannot roll.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the hydraulic valve block on the Dyna VT transmission housing. Identify the Park Brake Release Solenoid.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Unplug the electrical connector from the solenoid switch.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

Remove the retaining hardware (typically hex cap screws and a support bracket) securing the solenoid valve to the block.

  5. Extract and Clean

Pull the solenoid cartridge out of the valve block. Clean the mating surface and ensure no debris falls into the transmission hydraulic circuit.

  6. Install New Part

Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new solenoid into the valve block and torque the retaining hex screws to OEM specifications.

  7. Reconnect and Clear Codes

Reconnect the wiring harness. Turn the tractor key to the ON position, connect a diagnostic tool to the TRANS1 module, and clear the fault code.

  8. Test Operation

Start the tractor and cycle the park brake on and off to ensure the code does not return and the brake releases properly.
