13.02.17

Massey Ferguson 13.02.17 – TRANS1: Park Brake Release Solenoid Low Amp Draw Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The transmission controller is detecting a lower-than-expected electrical current (low amp draw) on the circuit that powers the park brake release solenoid. This typically indicates an open circuit, a broken wire, a loose connector, or a failed solenoid coil with high internal resistance.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors running between the TRANS1 controller and the park brake release solenoid for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Disconnect the park brake release solenoid and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the solenoid coil pins. An infinite reading (OL) indicates an open internal circuit.

  3. Check for continuity on the power and ground wires from the solenoid connector back to the TRANS1 module to rule out a broken wire in the harness.

  4. Verify that the controller is sending the correct voltage to the solenoid when the park brake release is commanded.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

Park the tractor on a flat surface, turn off the engine, and chock the wheels (since you will be working on the park brake system).

  2. Access the Solenoid

Locate the park brake release solenoid on the transmission valve block. Depending on the specific model and cab configuration, you may need to remove a side panel or access it from under the cab.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

Unbolt or unscrew the solenoid cartridge from the transmission valve block. Be prepared for a small amount of hydraulic fluid loss; have a catch pan ready.

  5. Install the New Part

Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean hydraulic transmission fluid. Thread it into the valve block and tighten to OEM torque specifications.

  6. Reconnect and Clear Codes

Reconnect the wiring harness. Turn on the tractor, use a diagnostic tool to clear the 13.02.17 fault code, and test the park brake engagement and release to ensure smooth operation.
