Massey Ferguson 13.02.30 – TRANS1: Park Brake System Pressure Issue Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The transmission control system has detected an anomaly in the hydraulic pressure within the park brake circuit. The system is either failing to build sufficient hydraulic pressure to release the park brake, or the pressure is not dropping correctly when the brake is applied.

Check the cause

  1. Fluid Levels: Verify the transmission/hydraulic oil level is correct and the transmission filter is not blocked (which can cause pressure drops).

  2. Sensor & Wiring Inspection: Locate the handbrake pressure sensor on the transmission valve block. Inspect the wiring harness and connector for corrosion, chafing, or loose pins. A short or open circuit will cause false pressure readings.

  3. Solenoid Test: Check the park brake release solenoid. Test the coil resistance with a multimeter to ensure it is not drawing high/low amps or suffering from an open circuit.

  4. In-Cab Switch: Verify the park brake switch in the cab is functioning correctly and sending the proper open/close signals to the TRANS1 module.

  5. Hydraulic Calibration: In some field instances, an interlock issue preventing the park brake from releasing can be resolved by running a full calibration of the cab suspension and transmission hydraulics via the diagnostic screen.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the tractor on flat, level ground. Chock the wheels securely, as you will be working on the park brake system and the tractor could roll if the brake releases.

  2. Depressurize

    Ensure the tractor is turned off and hydraulic pressure in the transmission circuit is relieved.

  3. Access the Valve Block

    Locate the park brake pressure sensor and solenoid assembly on the Dyna VT transmission housing.

  4. Replace the Sensor/Solenoid

    If diagnostics point to the sensor, disconnect the electrical plug, unscrew the faulty handbrake pressure sensor, and install the replacement. Torque to OEM specifications. If the solenoid is faulty, remove the retaining nut, slide off the old solenoid coil, and replace it with the new unit (or replace the entire solenoid valve if the internal spool is sticking).

  5. Reassembly

    Reconnect the wiring harnesses. Ensure the connections are tight and free of moisture.

  6. Testing

    Start the tractor and allow the transmission oil to reach operating temperature (35°C - 45°C). Cycle the park brake switch several times to ensure the brake engages and disengages smoothly.

  7. Clear Codes

    Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 13.02.30 code from the TRANS1 module.
