Massey Ferguson 13.02.44 – HITCH: Park Brake Activated Solenoid Low Amp Draw Dyna 6 (HITCH)

Issue description

The control module has detected an abnormally low electrical current (amperage) drawing through the park brake activated solenoid circuit when the solenoid is commanded to engage. This typically points to an open circuit, which is most commonly caused by a disconnected plug, broken wiring, corroded connector terminals, or a burnt-out (open) internal solenoid coil.

Check the cause

  1. Locate the park brake activated solenoid on the transmission valve block and visually inspect the electrical connector for looseness, moisture, dirt, or severe corrosion.

  2. Trace the wiring from the solenoid back toward the HITCH controller. Look for chafed, broken, or pinched wires, which are common causes of an open circuit.

  3. Disconnect the solenoid and measure the resistance across its coil pins using a multimeter. If the multimeter reads 'OL' (infinite resistance) or an unusually high resistance value, the solenoid coil is internally broken.

  4. With the connector unplugged and the tractor's park brake commanded ON, check the harness side for proper supply voltage and a clean ground to ensure the HITCH controller is sending the signal.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

    Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Crucially, securely chock the wheels, as you will be working on and disabling the park brake system.

  2. Power Down

    Turn off the engine, remove the key, and turn off the battery isolator switch if equipped.

  3. Locate the Solenoid

    Identify the Park Brake Activated Solenoid on the Dyna-6 transmission hydraulic valve block.

  4. Disconnect

    Unplug the electrical wiring harness from the solenoid.

  5. Remove the Coil

    If the diagnostic tests proved the coil is faulty, remove the retaining nut or snap ring holding the solenoid coil to the hydraulic valve cartridge stem.

  6. Replace

    Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve stem. Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut/ring. (Note: You usually do not need to open the hydraulic system to replace just the electrical coil).

  7. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical harness back into the new solenoid, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

  8. Clear Codes and Test

    Restore battery power, turn on the tractor, and clear the stored fault codes via the dashboard SIS (Setup and Information Screen) or diagnostic tool. Cycle the park brake on and off to verify proper operation and ensure the 13.02.44 code does not return.
