Massey Ferguson 13.02.48 – HITCH: Park Brake Switch Not Opening When Park Brake Engaged Dyna 6 (HITCH)
Issue description
The control module expects the electrical circuit of the park brake switch to open (break continuity) when the operator engages the park brake. Because the switch is remaining closed, the system detects a mismatch between the physical brake engagement and the electrical signal. This is typically caused by a mechanically stuck switch, a short circuit in the wiring harness, or a misadjusted park brake lever mechanism.

Check the cause
Mechanical Inspection: Inspect the park brake lever and the physical switch mounting. Ensure dirt, debris, or a bent bracket isn't preventing the lever from physically releasing the switch plunger when the brake is pulled.
Continuity Test: Disconnect the park brake switch. Use a multimeter to test for continuity across the switch terminals. The switch should be closed (continuity) when the brake is disengaged, and open (no continuity) when the brake is engaged. If it remains closed in both states, the switch has failed internally.
Wiring Harness Check: If the switch tests fine, check the wiring harness running from the switch to the HITCH module. Look for rubbed wires causing a short to ground or a short to voltage, which would trick the module into thinking the switch is still closed.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Chock the wheels securely since you will be working on the parking brake system. Turn off the engine and remove the key.
Locate the Switch
Access the park brake switch, which is typically mounted directly at the base of the handbrake lever assembly inside the cab console or on the transmission housing linkage (depending on the specific cab layout).
Removal
Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the switch. Unthread the retaining nuts or remove the mounting bolts holding the switch to the bracket.
Installation
Install the new park brake switch into the bracket.
Adjustment
Adjust the switch depth (if threaded) so that the park brake lever fully depresses the switch plunger when the brake is released, and allows it to fully extend when the brake is engaged. Tighten the lock nuts.
Reconnection & Testing
Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn the key on, clear the stored 13.02.48 fault code via the dashboard or diagnostic tool, and cycle the park brake several times to ensure the code does not return and the dash indicator functions correctly.
