Massey Ferguson 13.02.49 – HITCH: Park Brake Wear Switch Not Opening Dyna 6 (HITCH)

The Park Brake Wear Switch (also known as the Park Brake Indirect Switch) is failing to open its electrical circuit when expected by the controller. This can be caused by a stuck/failed switch, a short circuit in the wiring harness, or excessive mechanical wear in the park brake assembly preventing proper switch actuation.

   Inspect the wiring harness from the park brake wear switch to the HITCH module for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched lines that could cause a short to ground.

   Disconnect the switch and use a digital multimeter to test for continuity while manually actuating it. If it remains closed regardless of position, the switch has failed internally.

   Verify the mechanical condition of the park brake mechanism. If the brake discs or pads are worn beyond their service limit, the mechanism may over-travel and prevent the switch from opening.

   Check the electrical connector for corrosion, water ingress, or bent pins that could be bridging the circuit.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Turn off the engine, remove the key, and securely chock the wheels to prevent rolling, as you will be working on the parking brake system.

   Locate the Switch

   Locate the park brake wear switch on the side of the Dyna-6 transmission housing, near the park brake linkage/assembly.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the wear switch.

   Removal

   Unbolt or unscrew the faulty switch from its mounting bracket or threaded port on the transmission housing.

   Installation

   Thread in or mount the new Park Brake Wear Switch. If the switch relies on a threaded adjustment for proper depth/actuation, set it to the exact depth of the old switch or follow the specific clearance gap outlined in your model's service manual.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Calibration/Clearing

   Turn the tractor's ignition on. Use the tractor's onboard diagnostic screen (SIS) or a Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 13.02.49 fault code.

   Testing

   Engage and disengage the park brake several times to ensure the code does not return and that the park lock engages properly.
