13.03.04

Massey Ferguson 13.03.04 – TRANS1: Air Brake Park Brake Solenoid Issue Dyna VT / Dyna 6 (TRANS1)

Issue description

This indicates an electrical or operational malfunction with the solenoid responsible for actuating or releasing the air brake/park brake system on the tractor's transmission. The system has detected that the solenoid's circuit is either open, shorted, or drawing an incorrect amount of amperage.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission solenoid valve block for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation.

  2. Disconnect the park brake solenoid connector and check for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins.

  3. Measure the resistance across the pins of the air brake park brake solenoid and compare to OEM specifications (an open reading or dead short indicates a failed internal coil).

  4. Turn the key to the ON position, toggle the park brake, and use a multimeter to verify that the TRANS1 controller is sending the correct voltage signal to the solenoid connector.

  5. Ensure the park lock proximity switch and steering column direction lever switches are functioning correctly, as related switch faults can trigger solenoid safety lockouts.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Chock the wheels securely, as you will be working on the park brake system. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the transmission solenoid valve block, which is mounted externally on the side of the Dyna-6 / Dyna-VT transmission housing.

  3. Remove the Faulty Solenoid

Clean the area around the valve block thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the transmission hydraulic/air circuits. Disconnect the electrical harness from the specific air brake park brake solenoid. Unbolt or unscrew the retaining mechanism holding the solenoid cartridge in the valve block. Pull the solenoid out.

  4. Install the New Solenoid

Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new solenoid into the valve block and torque the retaining bolts to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  5. Clear Codes and Calibrate

Reconnect the battery. Use a diagnostic tool or the tractor's onboard diagnostic interface (via the dash panel) to clear the 13.03.04 fault code. Note: Depending on the exact model, replacing transmission solenoids on a Dyna-6 may require a transmission calibration routine (often initiated by holding the PowerShuttle lever and observing the dash until 'Ct' appears, then shifting through ranges) to ensure smooth shifting and brake engagement.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Air Brake Park Brake Solenoid / Transmission Solenoid Valve

When ordering, you must provide the dealer with your tractor's specific serial number, as the valve block configuration varies slightly between the Dyna-6 (semi-powershift) and Dyna-VT (CVT) transmissions.
