13.03.08

Massey Ferguson 13.03.08 – TRANS1: Air Brake Solenoid Issue Dyna VT / Dyna 6 (TRANS1)

Issue description

Electrical malfunction—such as an open circuit, short to ground, or abnormal current draw—within the circuit that controls the air brake solenoid valve on tractors equipped with Dyna 6 or Dyna VT transmissions.

Check the cause

  1. Identify the Air Brake Solenoid (often designated as component Y40 on Massey Ferguson electrical schematics, frame 32 / A.30.A)

  2. Inspect the wiring harness between the TRANS1 module and the Y40 solenoid for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation

  3. Disconnect the solenoid and check the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-out terminals

  4. Test the solenoid coil for resistance using a multimeter to verify it is not internally shorted or open

  5. Check the harness side for continuity back to the TRANS1 module and ensure there is no short to ground or short to power

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Access the Valve

Locate the air brake valve block assembly (typically mounted near the rear axle/trailer brake couplings).

  3. Remove the Solenoid

Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty air brake solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or screws holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem.

  4. Install the New Part

Slide the new OEM solenoid coil over the valve stem and secure it.

  5. Reconnect and Reassemble

Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather seal is intact.

  6. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 13.03.08 fault code from the TRANS1 module.

  7. Test

Start the tractor and actuate the brakes/trailer brakes to ensure the air brake solenoid functions correctly and the code does not return.
