Massey Ferguson 13.03.16 – TRANS1: Park Brake Release Solenoid High Amp Draw Dyna VT (TRANS1)
Issue description
The transmission controller has detected an electrical current (amperage) flowing through the park brake release solenoid circuit that exceeds the normal operating limits. A "high amp draw" is typically caused by a short circuit to ground in the wiring harness, a damaged connector, or an internally shorted solenoid coil (which lowers the resistance and spikes the current).

Check the cause
Inspect the Wiring Harness: Trace the wiring from the TRANS1 module to the park brake release solenoid. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinch points against the transmission housing that could cause a short to ground.
Check Connectors: Disconnect the solenoid and inspect the pins for corrosion, water ingress, or bent terminals that could bridge the circuit.
Test Solenoid Coil Resistance: Using a multimeter, measure the resistance (Ohms) across the pins of the park brake release solenoid. A reading of zero or abnormally low resistance indicates the coil has failed internally and is causing the high amp draw.
Check for Controller Damage: With the solenoid disconnected, turn the key on and command the park brake to release. Verify that the correct voltage is still reaching the connector to ensure the TRANS1 module wasn't damaged by the short circuit.
Repair steps
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and securely chock the wheels.
This is necessary as you will be disabling the park brake system.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
This prevents further electrical shorts or accidental system activation.
Locate the park brake release solenoid.
It is located on the Dyna-VT transmission hydraulic valve block.
Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the solenoid.
Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid.
This prevents dirt from entering the transmission hydraulic system.
Remove the retaining nut or bolts holding the solenoid coil in place.
This may be the entire cartridge valve assembly, depending on the specific tractor model.
Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve stem.
Install the new solenoid/coil and tighten the retaining hardware.
Tighten to the OEM torque specification.
Reconnect the electrical harness connector.
Ensure the weather seal is intact and it clicks into place securely.
Reconnect the battery.
Start the tractor, clear the 13.03.16 fault code, and test the electronic park brake.
Clear the code using the dashboard interface or a diagnostic tool, and test engagement and release to confirm the repair.
