Massey Ferguson 13.03.42 – HITCH: Park Brake Released Solenoid Low Amp Draw

The electronic control unit is commanding the Park Brake Release Solenoid to activate, but the electrical current (amperage) flowing through the circuit is lower than the minimum expected threshold. This typically indicates an electrical open circuit, high resistance, a broken wire, a loose connector, or a burnt-out solenoid coil.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the Park Brake Release Solenoid on the transmission valve block for pulled wires, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.

   Disconnect the solenoid and use a multimeter to measure the resistance (Ohms) across the two pins of the solenoid coil. An infinite (OL) or unusually high reading indicates a broken internal coil.

   Check the continuity of the wiring from the solenoid connector back to the HITCH controller to ensure there are no breaks or chafing.

   Verify that the solenoid connector is receiving a good ground and that the controller is sending the proper 12V signal when the park brake release is commanded.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Securely chock the wheels to prevent the tractor from rolling when the brake is manipulated or disabled.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the Park Brake Release Solenoid on the Dyna-6 transmission control valve block (usually located on the side of the transmission housing).

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid

   If it is a slip-on coil, remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem and slide the faulty coil off. If it is a complete cartridge valve assembly, clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt ingress, then unscrew the valve from the block.

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new coil onto the stem and tighten the retaining nut (or thread the new cartridge valve into the block, ensuring the O-rings are lubricated with clean hydraulic oil).

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring it clicks and locks securely.

   Clear Codes & Test

   Turn the tractor on, clear the inactive fault codes via the dashboard/diagnostic menu, and cycle the park brake switch. Verify that the park brake engages and releases properly and that code 13.03.42 does not return.
