13.03.46

Massey Ferguson 13.03.46 – HITCH: Park Brake Released Solenoid Voltage Issue Dyna 6 (HITCH)

Issue description

The electronic control system has detected an abnormal voltage signal (such as an open circuit, short circuit, or out-of-range voltage) on the circuit that powers the solenoid responsible for releasing the parking brake.

Check the cause

  1. Verify System Voltage: Check the battery voltage and alternator output to ensure the tractor's electrical system is operating within the correct voltage range, as low or spiking voltage can trigger false solenoid codes.

  2. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Locate the park brake solenoid on the side of the transmission valve block. Inspect the wiring harness and the weather-pack connector for corrosion, broken wires, or loose pins.

  3. Test the Solenoid: Use a multimeter to check the resistance (ohms) of the park brake solenoid coil. Compare it to OEM specs to see if the coil is internally shorted or open.

  4. Check the Switches: Verify the operation of the park brake switch in the cab, as switch failures can sometimes mimic or accompany solenoid circuit issues.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Turn off the engine, remove the key, and securely chock the wheels, as you will be disabling the parking brake system during the repair.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the transmission control valve block on the side of the Dyna 6 transmission where the range change and park brake solenoids are mounted.

  3. Disconnect Power

Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty park brake solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

Remove the retaining nut or screws holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the old solenoid off. (If the entire valve needs replacing, unthread the valve cartridge from the transmission block, being prepared to catch a small amount of hydraulic fluid).

  5. Install the New Part

Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining hardware.

  6. Reconnect and Clear

Plug the electrical connector back in. Turn the tractor on and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 13.03.46 fault code from the HITCH module.

  7. Test Operation

Engage and disengage the park brake multiple times to ensure the solenoid actuates properly and the code does not return.
