13.X.15

Massey Ferguson 13.X.15 – TRANS1: Park Brake Release Solenoid Open Circuit Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The transmission controller has detected an "Open Circuit" in the electrical circuit for the park brake release solenoid. This means there is a break in the electrical path—such as a severed wire, a disconnected or corroded plug, or a burnt-out internal coil within the solenoid itself. Because the circuit is open, the solenoid cannot energize to release the park brake.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading from the TRANS1 controller to the park brake release solenoid on the transmission valve block for chafed, broken, or melted wires.

  2. Disconnect the plug at the solenoid and check for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-out pins that could break the electrical connection.

  3. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance (Ohms) across the pins of the park brake release solenoid. Infinite resistance (OL) indicates the internal coil has failed.

  4. With the tractor running and the park brake release commanded, check for proper supply voltage and ground at the harness connector to rule out a module or wiring failure.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

Chock the wheels securely. Since you are working on the park brake system, the tractor could roll if the brake is inadvertently released.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the park brake release solenoid on the Dyna VT transmission hydraulic valve block.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Unplug the electrical connector from the solenoid.

  4. Remove the Coil

Remove the retaining nut or clip holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. You typically only need to replace the electrical coil portion if the hydraulic valve itself is not leaking or sticking.

  5. Install New Part

Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut.

  6. Reconnect and Clear

Reconnect the electrical harness. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 13.X.15 / 13.00.15 fault code from the TRANS1 module.

  7. Test

Cycle the park brake switch to ensure the brake releases and engages properly without throwing the code.
