Massey Ferguson 13.X.17 – TRANS1: Park Brake Release Solenoid Low Amp Draw Dyna VT
Issue description
The transmission controller is detecting an abnormally low electrical current (amperage) when it attempts to energize the solenoid responsible for releasing the park brake. This almost always indicates an open circuit caused by a broken wire, a disconnected or corroded harness plug, or a burned-out/failed solenoid coil.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the Park Brake Release Solenoid (Y7) connector on the transmission valve block for pushed-out pins, water ingress, or corrosion.
Check harness continuity from the TRANS1 controller to the solenoid, looking for chafed or broken wires, particularly where the harness routes under the cab or near the firewall.
Perform a coil resistance test by disconnecting the solenoid and measuring resistance across its pins. An infinite reading (OL) or unusually high resistance confirms the internal coil has failed.
Perform a voltage check with the solenoid disconnected. Have an operator command the park brake release (ensure wheels are chocked) and verify the TRANS1 controller is sending the correct reference voltage.
Repair steps
Secure the Machine
Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Heavily chock the wheels to prevent the tractor from rolling when the brake is disabled.
Locate the Solenoid
Access the Dyna VT transmission valve block. The Y7 park brake release solenoid is located on the top or side of the transmission housing, which may require removing side access panels or working under the cab.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid with brake cleaner and compressed air to ensure no dirt enters the highly sensitive Dyna VT hydraulic system.
Remove the Solenoid
Disconnect the electrical harness. Unbolt the retaining fastener(s) holding the solenoid coil/cartridge in place and carefully extract it.
Install the New Part
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new solenoid and torque the retaining bolts to OEM specifications.
Reassemble and Calibrate
Reconnect the electrical harness. Clear the 13.X.17 fault code via the tractor's diagnostic screen.
Test
Start the tractor and test the park brake engagement and release. Depending on the model year, replacing transmission solenoids may require a transmission calibration routine via the dash control center.
