Massey Ferguson 13.X.38 – TRANS1: Issue With Emergency Steering Pressure Dyna VT (TRANS1)

The emergency steering system is detecting an abnormal pressure reading (either too high, too low, or an open/short circuit) in the emergency steering hydraulic circuit.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector leading to the emergency steering pressure sensor/switch for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins (common causes of false pressure readings).

   Use a multimeter to check the voltage supply and signal return from the emergency steering pressure sensor for open circuits or high-amp draws.

   Connect a manual hydraulic pressure gauge to the emergency steering circuit test port and compare the reading against the value the sensor is reporting to the TRANS1 module via an OBD diagnostic tool.

   If the manual gauge shows incorrect pressure (mechanical issue), inspect the emergency steering pump, priority valve spool, and emergency steering check valves for blockages or failure.

   Locate the Sensor

   Identify the emergency steering pressure sensor, typically located near the priority steering valve block or the emergency steering pump.

   Electrical Repair

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring issue, repair the damaged section of the harness or replace the connector terminal. Clear the code and test.

   Sensor Replacement

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor. Place a catch pan underneath to catch residual hydraulic fluid. Unscrew the faulty pressure sensor/switch. Install the new sensor (ensure the O-ring or sealing washer is in place) and torque to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Mechanical Repair

   If the pump or priority valve is failing, remove and replace the faulty hydraulic component. Bleed the steering system according to the service manual.

   Calibration/Clearing

   Turn the key on, use a diagnostic tool to clear the 13.X.38 fault code from the TRANS1 module, and start the tractor to verify the emergency steering system registers correct standby pressures.
