Issue description

The system detects that the electrical current (amperage) flowing to the park brake activation solenoid is higher than the specified limit, typically indicating a short circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the park brake solenoid on the transmission brake block for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could cause a short to ground.

  2. Disconnect the solenoid and check the connector pins for corrosion, dirt, or hydraulic fluid/water ingress, which can bridge the connection and cause high current draw.

  3. Perform a resistance test across the solenoid coil pins using a multimeter. If resistance is near zero or significantly below OEM spec, the coil is internally shorted.

  4. Perform a harness isolation test: with the solenoid disconnected, turn the key ON and engage the park brake switch. If the code changes to a 'Low Amp Draw' or 'Open Circuit' code (e.g., 13.00.44), the solenoid is faulty. If the 'High Amp Draw' code persists, the short is in the wiring harness between the HITCH controller and the connector.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Tractor

    Park the tractor on a flat, level surface. Chock the wheels securely, as you will be disabling the park brake mechanism during the repair.

  2. Clean the Area

    Thoroughly clean the area around the transmission brake block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  3. Disconnect

    Unplug the electrical connector from the park brake solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

    Remove the retaining nut/screws holding the solenoid coil and valve cartridge in place. Carefully extract the solenoid from the valve block. Have a rag ready to catch any residual hydraulic fluid.

  5. Install the New Solenoid

    Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission/hydraulic fluid. Carefully insert it into the block and tighten the retaining hardware to the specified torque.

  6. Reconnect and Clear

    Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn the ignition on, clear the fault codes from the HITCH controller via the dash or diagnostic tool, and test the park brake engagement/disengagement to ensure the code does not return.
