Massey Ferguson 132.02 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Air Flow Sensor Signal Issue (ECU)

Issue description

Air Mass Flow Sensor signal is not plausible or the data is erratic, intermittent, or incorrect. The engine control module is receiving a signal from the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor that is out of its expected range or does not match the current engine operating conditions.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Check the sensor connections and wiring integrity for the MAF sensor. Look for corrosion, physical damage, or loose connectors, which are common causes for an erratic or not plausible signal.

  2. Check Reference Voltage: Verify that the 5Vdc reference supply from the ECU to the sensor is within range.

  3. Inspect the Air Intake System: Check the engine air filter and intake piping for blockages or severe dirt buildup. A heavily restricted air filter can cause implausible air mass readings.

  4. Sensor Cleaning Warning: Do not blow high-pressure air or spray harsh cleaners directly onto the delicate sensing elements of the air flow sensor, as this can cause permanent damage.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Open the vehicle's main switch or disconnect the battery terminals before connecting or disconnecting any ECU or sensor components. If the power supply lines are live during connector engagement/disengagement, sparking may damage the connector pins or the ECU.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor, which is mounted on the engine air intake assembly between the air filter housing and the intake manifold.

  3. Remove the Faulty Sensor

    Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the MAF sensor. Remove the retaining screws or clamps holding the sensor in the intake housing and pull the sensor out.

  4. Install the New Sensor

    Insert the replacement MAF sensor into the housing, ensuring it is oriented correctly with the direction of airflow. Secure it with the retaining screws.

  5. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor and reconnect the battery/main power switch.

  6. Clear Codes

    Use an AGCO Electronic Service Tool (EST) or Massey Ferguson WinTest diagnostic tool to clear the active 00132.02 (SPN 132 FMI 2) fault code and confirm the repair.
