Massey Ferguson 14.01.01 – TRANS1: High Pressure Brake System Pressure Too Low

Issue description

The hydraulic pressure within the tractor's high-pressure braking circuit (or brake accumulator) has dropped below the minimum safe operating threshold. As a built-in safety mechanism, if the brake accumulated pressure is too low, the transmission will often refuse to engage in drive or reverse.

Check the cause

  1. Check the transmission and hydraulic fluid levels. Inspect the high-pressure brake circuit, brake master cylinders, and trailer brake lines for visible hydraulic leaks.

  2. Check the Handbrake / Brake Pressure Sensor wiring harness and connector for corrosion, damage, or an open circuit, as a faulty sensor frequently sends an incorrect low-voltage signal.

  3. Verify that the brake accumulator is holding its nitrogen charge and that the hydraulic pump is supplying adequate pressure to the brake circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

    Ensure the tractor is parked on a flat surface with the engine off. Pump the brake pedals multiple times to relieve any residual accumulator pressure before opening the hydraulic circuit.

  2. Replace the Sensor

    Locate the high-pressure brake sensor (often located near the brake master cylinders or handbrake valve block). Disconnect the electrical harness, unthread the old sensor, and install the new OEM pressure sensor.

  3. Bleed the High-Pressure Braking System

    Locate the charge connector and pressure connector on the brake valve block. Open the designated bleed screws on the assisted brake master cylinders. Run the bleeding procedure to purge all air from the high-pressure lines. Close the bleed screws once a steady stream of hydraulic fluid (free of air bubbles) is achieved.

  4. Clear Codes & Calibrate

    Reconnect the diagnostic tool, clear the 14.01.01 fault code from the TRANS1 module, and test the tractor to ensure the transmission engages in forward and reverse.
