Massey Ferguson 14.02.09 – TRANS1: High Pressure Brake System Pressure Too Low DYNA 6 (TRANS1)

Issue description

The system has detected that the hydraulic pressure in the high-pressure brake circuit has dropped below the minimum required threshold. This can be caused by a failing pressure sensor, a leak in the brake circuit, worn brake discs, or a failing hydraulic pump.

Check the cause

  1. Check hydraulic oil level and look for a blocked filter warning light on the dash (a blocked filter strongly indicates brake disc fibre is breaking up)

  2. Visually inspect the high-pressure brake lines, trailer brake valves, and under the cab for any external hydraulic fluid leaks

  3. Locate the brake pressure sensor (handbrake or trailer brake) and check the wiring harness and connector for corrosion, chafing, or open circuits

  4. Use a multimeter to verify the brake pressure sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage and outputting a signal within the specified range

  5. Check for internal brake wear, especially if the tractor has been driven with the handbrake engaged, which causes rapid wear and system contamination

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the hydraulic system

    If an electrical fault is found, depressurize the hydraulic system.

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector

    Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty brake pressure sensor.

  3. Install the new OEM sensor

    Unthread the old sensor and install the new OEM sensor.

  4. Reconnect the wiring harness and clear fault codes

    Reconnect the wiring harness and clear the fault codes via the diagnostic menu.

  5. Stop driving the tractor immediately

    If mechanical failure/contamination is found and the hydraulic filter is blocked with friction material or metal filings, stop driving the tractor immediately to prevent filings from passing through the entire back end.

  6. Drain and flush the system

    Drain the hydraulic oil and flush the system completely.

  7. Replace the hydraulic oil filters

    Replace the hydraulic oil filters.

  8. Split the tractor to replace internal brake discs

    If the brake discs are worn to the metal, the tractor will need to be split (typically an 8 to 10-hour job for an experienced mechanic) to replace the internal brake discs.

  9. Refill, bleed, and test

    Refill with the manufacturer-specified hydraulic transmission fluid, bleed the brake system, and test hydraulic pressures.
