Issue description

The system's pressure sensor is sending a voltage signal to the controller that corresponds to a hydraulic pressure exceeding the maximum safe operating threshold for the high-pressure braking circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Verify Actual Pressure: Connect a mechanical hydraulic pressure gauge to the high-pressure brake circuit test port. Compare the mechanical gauge reading to the live data reading on the tractor's diagnostic display.

  2. Inspect Sensor Wiring: Check the wiring harness leading to the brake pressure sensor. Look for chafing, corrosion, or a short-to-power (+12V or +5V), which would cause the sensor signal to artificially peg high.

  3. Check Sensor Voltage: The sensor should output a variable voltage within a specific range (typically 1V to 5V). If the voltage is stuck outside of this range (>5V), the sensor has likely failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

    Turn off the tractor and pump the brake pedals repeatedly to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the accumulators and brake lines before opening the system.

  2. Address Wiring (If Applicable)

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a short circuit in the harness, repair the damaged wiring and clear the codes.

  3. Replace the Sensor (If Faulty)

    If the mechanical pressure is normal but the sensor reads high, locate the brake pressure sensor on the transmission valve block. Disconnect the electrical connector, unthread the old sensor, and install the new one. Torque to OEM specifications.

  4. Address Mechanical Overpressure (If Applicable)

    If the mechanical gauge confirms the pressure is genuinely too high, the brake charging valve or pressure relief valve is likely sticking closed. Remove the charging valve, inspect for debris or scored internal spools, and clean or replace the valve assembly as necessary.

  5. Reassemble and Bleed

    Reconnect all fittings. Start the tractor and allow the system to build pressure. Bleed the brake system if any air was introduced.

  6. Clear Codes

    Use the Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 14.X.03 code from the TRANS1 module and test drive the tractor to ensure the code does not return.
