Massey Ferguson E157.00 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EEM / EEM4: Fuel Rail Pressure High
Issue description
The engine control system has detected that the pressure in the common fuel rail exceeds the commanded or safe threshold, which can lead to engine derating (limp mode), power loss, or stalling.

Check the cause
Check fuel filters: Inspect the square pre-filter (if fitted) and main filters for clogs that can cause erratic fuel flow and pressure spikes or drops.
Check for air in the system: Open the bleed screw on the filter housing after the lift pump and turn the key on to ensure a steady, air-free flow of diesel.
Test the lift pump / primer pump: Ensure the low-pressure supply pump is functioning correctly and delivering adequate fuel volume to the high-pressure pump.
Inspect sensor wiring: Check the 3-pin connector and wiring harness leading to the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor for chafing, corrosion, or loose connections.
Check the high-pressure fuel pump and actuator: Inspect for a sticking fuel pump actuator (metering valve) which can cause the pump to deliver too much fuel to the rail.
Repair steps
Relieve fuel pressure
Turn off the engine and allow it to sit so the high-pressure fuel rail can depressurize safely.
Replace fuel filters
If the filters are old or contaminated, replace them and bleed the fuel system thoroughly.
Clear and retest
Use a heavy-duty diagnostic scanner to clear the E157 / SPN 157 code. Run the tractor under load to see if the code returns.
Replace the fuel rail pressure sensor
If the wiring is intact and the filters are clean but the code persists, the sensor is likely faulty. Disconnect the 3-pin electrical connector, unscrew the old sensor (typically M14 x 1.5 or M18 x 1.5 thread), install the new sensor, and torque to OEM specifications.
Final verification
Prime the fuel system, start the engine, check for leaks at the sensor threads, and verify that the engine no longer enters limp mode.
