Massey Ferguson E157.02 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Fuel Rail Pressure Erratic
Issue description
The engine control module is receiving invalid, erratic, or intermittent pressure information from the fuel rail pressure sensor. Without an accurate reading of the high-pressure common rail, the engine cannot deliver the correct amount of fuel at the right time, which typically results in rough running, power derating, or stalling.

Check the cause
Wiring and Connector Inspection: Check the 3-pin electrical connector at the fuel rail pressure sensor for corrosion, backed-out pins, or loose connections. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the ECU for chafing, shorts, or open circuits.
Fuel System Integrity: Check the fuel filters and fuel supply lines for restrictions or air leaks that could cause genuine erratic pressure fluctuations.
Leak Check: Inspect the common rail, injector lines, and pressure relief valve for any signs of external fuel leaks.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Turn off the engine and allow the machine to sit so the high-pressure fuel system can depressurize. Follow the specific safety procedures in your operator's manual to relieve fuel system pressure before loosening any fittings.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the fuel rail pressure sensor, which is threaded directly into the high-pressure common fuel rail.
Disconnect Electronics
Carefully unplug the 3-pin electrical connector from the sensor.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt or debris from contaminating the open fuel rail.
Remove the Sensor
Unscrew the old sensor from the rail.
Install the New Sensor
Thread the new sensor into the rail (common thread sizes are M14 x 1.5 or M18 x 1.5 depending on the exact engine). Torque it strictly to the OEM specification to ensure a proper seal without damaging the rail.
Reassemble and Test
Reconnect the electrical harness. Prime the low-pressure fuel system if required. Start the engine, check carefully for leaks around the sensor threads, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the E157.02 fault code so the ECU can relearn.
