Issue description

The controller is receiving a voltage signal from the fuel rail pressure sensor that exceeds the maximum expected operating threshold. This is typically an electrical issue (such as a short to power or a failed sensor internal circuit) rather than an actual mechanical overpressure condition.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness running from the ECU to the fuel rail pressure sensor for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could cause a short to power.

  2. Disconnect the sensor and inspect the 3-pin connector for corrosion, water ingress, or bent pins.

  3. With the key on and engine off, use a multimeter to check the reference voltage and ground at the sensor connector. Verify the signal wire is not shorted to the 5V reference or battery voltage.

  4. Monitor live fuel rail pressure voltage with a diagnostic tool. If voltage remains high when unplugged, the issue is in the wiring or ECU. If it drops, the sensor has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Turn off the ignition, disconnect the battery, and allow the engine to cool.

  2. Relieve Pressure

    Ensure the high-pressure fuel system has depressurized (crack a fuel line slightly if necessary, following OEM safety guidelines for high-pressure diesel).

  3. Disconnect

    Unplug the electrical connector from the fuel rail pressure sensor.

  4. Remove Sensor

    Using the appropriate wrench, carefully unscrew the faulty pressure sensor from the common fuel rail.

  5. Install New Sensor

    Thread the new sensor into the fuel rail. Torque it to the manufacturer's specific torque rating (do not overtighten, as this can damage the rail threads or the sensor).

  6. Reassemble

    Reconnect the 3-pin electrical connector and reconnect the battery.

  7. Clear Codes

    Use a diagnostic scanner to clear the 000157.03 fault code from the ECU.

  8. Test

    Prime the fuel system, start the engine, and check for leaks around the sensor threads. Verify that the code does not return.
