Issue description

This code triggers when the actual measured fuel rail pressure exceeds the commanded/desired fuel rail pressure by a calibrated threshold (often a difference of > 200 bar).

Check the cause

  1. Verify Recent Maintenance: Determine if the fuel system was recently repaired or if fuel filter maintenance was performed. Air introduced into the fuel system can cause erratic pressure readings and trigger this code.

  2. Check Fuel Supply: Verify the fuel tank level is above 25%. Low fuel, fuel aeration, or fuel restrictions (plugged filters, kinked lines) can cause pressure fluctuations.

  3. Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins.

  4. Diagnostic Tool Verification: Connect a diagnostic service tool (e.g., AGCO EDT / WinEEM3 / WinEEM4) to monitor 'Actual Fuel Rail Pressure' versus 'Desired Fuel Rail Pressure' at idle and under load.

  5. Sensor Check: With the engine off (key ON), check the fuel rail pressure sensor reading. If it reads an artificially high pressure (e.g., > 5 bar) when the rail is depressurized, the sensor is likely faulty.

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Retest

    If the code appeared immediately after a filter change, clear the fault codes and road test the tractor to purge air from the system. If the code does not return, release the machine.

  2. Inspect the MPROP Valve

    If the actual pressure is genuinely too high while running, the Magnetic Proportional Valve (MPROP) / Fuel Quantity Control Valve on the high-pressure pump may be sticking or failing, causing it to over-pressurize the rail. Inspect and replace if necessary.

  3. Replace the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor

    If diagnostic checks show the sensor is reporting erratic or incorrect high values (especially when the engine is off), relieve the fuel system pressure, remove the old sensor, install the new sensor, and torque to OEM specifications.

  4. Inspect the Pressure Relief Valve (PRV)

    The PRV is a mechanical safety valve on the common rail. If the rail was severely over-pressurized, the PRV may have popped open. Once tripped, it often leaks internally and must be replaced.

  5. Final Verification

    Clear all ECU fault codes. Run the engine at a steady RPM (1400 to 1500) for several minutes to verify the code does not return and that actual rail pressure matches desired rail pressure.
